About Me
I am a conservation biologist with experience developing and managing large scale species conservation projects in partnership with volunteer networks, scientists and educators worldwide.
I grew up in England and received my honors degree from Southampton University, majoring in Biology and Oceanography. In 1996 I completed my doctorate at Bristol University on the conservation biology of bats, then spent five years in London working for the Bat Conservation Trust, and two years in Texas working for Bat Conservation International. In 2003, became the Director of Lubee Bat Conservancy in Florida. My role involved directing the growth of the Conservancy, communications and marketing, grant-writing and the co-ordination of global and captive based research, conservation and education programs. I managed operations of Lubee’s bat center - a USDA registered research facility and AZA certified breeding facility - with a unique living animal collection of over 250 old world fruit bats. I recently relocated to Southern California, to take up my new role as Associate Director, Applied Animal Ecology at San Diego Zoo Institute for Conservation Research (based at the Safari park), where I will be supporting and managing a wider portfolio of applied field conservation programs including a reintroduction program for California Condors in Mexico and the Desert Tortoise Conservation center in Nevada.
